The Law of Substitution is one of the great mental laws. This Law means that the only way to dispense with a certain thought is to replace or substitute it with another.
It is not practical to try to just erase a train of thought. If you did, your mind would be blank and that is not productive or possible because it was not designed to be empty. Or, if you try to not think of something, guess what you’ll think of. If you were told to not think of a chocolate cream pie, guess what! You’d be thinking of it. If you were to say to yourself, “I am not going to think about a chocolate cream pie”, that is thinking about it.
If you would become interested in something else, you would forget about the pie and this is would be substitution.
When you catch yourself thinking negatively, you are wise to not fight the negative thoughts. It is more effective to think of God. If that is a challenge at the moment, turn your attention to something positive. Thus you invoke the Law of Substitution.
If you are very concerned about a healing need, substitute thoughts of health, life, and perfection. You have invoked the Law of Substitution and greatly aided in the healing process. This is a way of turning the Golden Key. Oh, by the way, enjoy the pie! – Lovingly, Rev. John
