How to Make the Best Decisions
By Rev. John W. Adams
Welcome to the age of computerized living! Isn’t it wonderful?! I have been on Mother Earth for quite a number of years and I remember when a computer was unheard of. The closest thing available was a manually operated adding machine. When the first computer was built, it was immense! Then there was the creation of the micro-chip which drastically changed everything.
I remember, too, the old telephones with the rotary dials or you had to call an operator to connect you with the party you wanted to talk to. It was not uncommon for the operator to listen in on your conversation. That’s how local gossip was spread around.
Soon we had the automated dialing system and push-button phones. My how we have progressed! I resisted having an answering machine for a long time because I thought they were too impersonal. However, quite a few years ago, I bought one. I had no idea how much that would change my life. I have since changed to Voice Mail. Now, when I call someone, I expect to get a recording and am surprised when a get a real live person, especially the one I want to talk with.
So often, when you make a phone call, you will not only get a recorded message, but be given several personal options. You are told to, “Select from the following menu.” How nice! Sometimes I don’t know what they are talking about so I wait for the operator-a real live person-if one is available.
In thinking about this, it seems that life is a lot like that. We all have personal options. We were given these when we came to live on Mother Earth. That hasn’t changed and never will. Life is a series of continuing personal options.
I am sure that Infinite Intelligence created things that way to make it convenient for us to live life in the way that we choose. The choice is always ours.
Unfortunately, some people are not aware of this and make choices indiscriminately without much thought, if any. They think of something and go ahead and do it without understanding the process or the activity of mind and manifestation. And, too often, people, when given choices-which we all have-choose the lesser instead of the greater. This is usually the case when someone believes his or herself not worthy of much.
We all have the option of making our lives as we want them to be; however, sometimes we do so without realizing that we have more personal options. Perhaps, we did not tune in to, or listen to the whole or main menu.
Forest Gump (in the movie) had it all figured out when he said, “Life is like a box of chocolates.” There is quite a selection and you don’t always know what you will get. That is true in the best of circumstances, and thinking, but when you understand the thinking process and how the circumstances of life come about, you know you have more options than might appear.
The secret is in getting still and turning in to the Source within you. The Master Teacher said to, Ask and you will receive. Seek, and you will find, knock, and it will be opened to you. In other words, open your mind to the Main Menu, and make your selection. It is yours for the asking, seeking, and knocking.
Now, it may not be quite as easy as that, but it’s a lot easier when you understand that you do have options; that you can control your thinking and you do have a choice-many choices!
Walking and hiking are two of my favorite pastimes. Often, I will just walk on the streets near where I live, but occasionally, I will go hiking in the mountains or desert. It is always, of course, my choice. I can choose which path to take or how to vary my walk to make it more interesting.
Richard Lynch wrote: “If we are at present in work that is uncongenial we need not lay the soothing balm to our souls that a martyr’s crown is coming to us because of this.” What the position gives to us is an opportunity to gain self-mastery, after which we gain dominion; of our circumstances. We control circumstances only so far as we control ourselves and the greatest person in the entire world is the person who is most conscious of self-dominion.
So take dominion. Go within and select from the Main Menu, your personal options and make your life more exciting, fulfilling and fun! Go for it with all your heart!
