A Holistic Approach to Your Health
By Rev. Tina Brown
The definition of the word Holistic, is treating a person as a “whole”, rather than a collection of parts. With the Holistic approach there are four areas in treating the whole person:
- It is more important to know the whole person who has the illness, rather than only looking at the disease.
- The mind and body are not viewed separately, but as inseparable.
- Teaching the individual disease prevention and encouraging a wellness approach to life.
- The individual is encouraged to take active steps in self-healing.
This is not a new concept to Unity, as the Unity movement was founded on the miraculous healing of Co-founder, Myrtle Fillmore. It was through the practice of meditation and the continued affirmation, “as a child of God I do not inherit sickness”, that her healing of Tuberculous took place. Doctors had given up and had no further treatment to cure her. Through changing her belief and thinking about her condition, her body began to improve, and she was completely cured.
Silent Unity, the twenty-four-hour prayer ministry, uses monthly statements affirming one’s whole being by illuminating the mind, affirming wholeness in body and affirming God’s Abundance in all areas of one’s life. Unity teaches that we are one in mind, body and spirit. We encourage health and wellness in all areas of ones’ life.
The idea of healing and being whole is to stay in health and establishing one’s faith in the healing life of God. This is not just for people who are sick but is for everyone to stay in good health.
The Holistic approach to staying healthy not only includes attitude and belief, but also includes treatment from healthcare professionals when it needed. We recognize that the activity and life of God is active in and through all, as a divine resource of healing. How do you see yourself? Separated into different aspects of yourself, or as the whole person?
Unity’s approach in every area of your life is in treating the whole person. Mind, body and spirit.
To experience good health, we need to take care of our whole being.
- We take care of ourselves Spiritually through prayer, meditation, connecting with others through spiritual community, such as church, classes and events.
- We take care of the physical Body through developing healthy habits of what you take into your body be it food, drink or the energy around us.
- We work to develop healthy thought patterns and release negative thinking to create positive life experiences.
- We also work to release the negative emotions that we have stored up in the body and mind causing discomfort and disease.
When you respond to life with fear, anger, or resentment, you are physically and mentally hurting your body, just as surely as if you were injuring yourself with a physical object. What thoughts do hold in your mind?
How do you nurture your Spirit?
- Take time to relax the body temple.
- Make time for prayer and meditation, allow your mind to be still, let go and let God.
- Forgiveness is key in letting go of negative emotions such as anger, resentment, fear and grief. Scripture tells us that “there is a time and season for everything”. We tend to hang onto life experiences way past their time and season.
- We have been given free will to choose how we respond to life events. God is Life and we are one with that life.
We can let go and trust, allowing the whole self to become balanced in Mind, Body and Spirit. God is working for us all the time. We but need to recognize this divine principle of truth and allow it to work. Know that you are a spiritual being and that the power of Spirit is working for the whole of who you are. Remember, you are a child of God. – In Love and Light, Rev. Tina

Your Prospering Power!
– Rev. John W. Adams
James E. Melton wrote in his book, Your Right To Fly, “I believe something absolutely phenomenal is locked up within each one of us – something so great and so powerful that we have not seen the likes of it before. As Walt Whitman has put it, ‘You are not all contained between your hat and your boots.’ I believe that it is possible for each one of us to release this energy, either in part or in total, and direct it into specific areas of our lives that we choose.”
Jim Melton is right, of course. There is a great “something” within each one of us and it should be given expression, or rather, be set free to express itself. When you allow this to happen, you are healthy, happy, prosperous, and free as you are created to be. This great “something” is the Presence of God, the spirit of success and prosperity innate in every person.
This was demonstrated very well by the greatest of Prosperity Teachers. Jesus said, “The things I do, you can do, and greater things.” He also instructed us to look within and to allow the “imprisoned splendor”; that is within each of us, be given the freedom to express itself. This is your Prospering Power!
Now, during the spring season when everything is bursting forth with new life and beauty, let it remind you of the vastness of universal abundance. Although it may have been hidden from view for a while, here it comes in all its grandeur! Whatever it is that needs to be expressed by you, now is the time to set it free and let it bloom in your life.
A woman in Michigan used her Prospering Power in amazing ways. She wrote: “I asked you for your prayer support and I want to tell you about some miracles that happened in my life. I had been in real estate but decided to get a job. After several disappointing setbacks, I was hired for the perfect position with just the right hours and twice the pay I’d expected. I was in a state of shock! “Also, I met a broker who asked me to work part-time for him. He specializes in a certain area and has done very well. He wants to help me to prosper, too. He helped me sell my mobile home and I received $400 more from the sale than I expected.”
Now is the right time to open your mind to the prospering power within you. Allow this great energy to freely express itself. You will be amazed at what happens! – Lovingly, Rev. John
In the Mail …
Thankful for Money Blessings! – Many thanks for your letter and for sending your newsletters to me. They are always appropriate and applicable. Thank you for the ‘Unexpected’ Income information. I have just finished with this month’s Feldenkrais training with more over the next four years. Amazingly, just before I had to pay the $1,500 fee, extra money came in via extra clients! I was given a carpet and underfelt for the lounger room floor which makes the place warmer and more comfortable, especially in winter (June), and I was given a near mint condition heater. In Florence Scovell Shinn’s book, The Game of Life, she talks about seaweed being seen before a ship reaches land, and I feel this is ‘seaweed’ for me, as I work towards more prosperity. Thank you for caring. You are loved and appreciated. With blessings of love and grateful thanks, I send my tithe. – Jenny in Queensland, Australia.
