My Vacation

2013, Positive Living Newsletter / by Rev. John W. Adams

After not taking a vacation for several years, and a lot of prayerful preparation, on July 24th, I got in my Toyota Prius Hybrid and started driving from Phoenix, AZ to Coralles, NM to visit my friend, Lisa, whose husband had passed on last year. On the way, I stopped overnight with two longtime friends who live in Show Low, AZ.

It was good to get away, although I kept up my prayer work for everyone on the Golden Key Ministry-Unity Prayer List. It is good to know that wherever I am, God is, and that is true for everyone. I felt and saw God’s presence in loving people, our beautiful planet, and many happy experiences.

Coralles, NM is a rural area about 25 miles northwest of Albuquerque. It is an arts and crafts community and is called the horse capital of New Mexico. Lisa has three, one being an Arabian which she has been training. Altogether she has ten animals, which she had rescued. Besides the three horses, there are two donkeys, two goats, two big dogs and Hubert, a beautiful black cat. I got to feed carrots to Gizell, one of the donkeys, and to one of the goats. It was easy to see that there was lots of love between Lisa and her animals.

On Friday, July 26, we rode the Rail Runner Train to Santa Fe, had lunch in a real nice East Indian restaurant and rode the train back to where we’d left my car.

That evening, as we left a Thai restaurant in Albuquerque, a BIG storm was just arriving. The wind blew very hard and the rain came down harder than I have ever seen before. There was hail, too, plus lots of thunder and lightning. The streets became rivers! I was glad that Lisa was driving my Prius! When we finally arrived back at her home in Coralles, the power was out and didn’t come back on until around midnight. The next morning, we saw that the rain had washed a lot of sand into, and piled up on the streets. Many yards were full of water, as well as Lisa’s. It was wonderful to see the neighbors out helping each other, clearing the streets, doing kind things and checking on each other. Love does wonderful things!

The next day, we went to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs and soaked in the mineral pools there. Before leaving, we ate in the restaurant, and talked with our waiter, Will, a Native American, who was obviously well educated. We learned he was about to graduate from a nearby College, with a degree in Business Administration.

Sunday morning we went to church at Unity Spiritual Center in Albuquerque where Revs. Josh and Jude Campbell are the ministers. It was a wonderful and very uplifting experience.

On Monday, July 29, I began the journey home, taking a detour through Petrified Forest National Park. On the ground there, are many petrified logs and pieces which are over 200 million years old. It’s a fascinating place!

Everything went smoothly wherever I traveled. It was good to get away, but good to get home again. My cat, Pretty, was glad to see me!

Before leaving on my trip, and along the way, I especially blessed every person and thing I would pass along the way. I blessed my car and the places I stayed. I am thankful for the gift of prayer, for all the wonderful people I met and talked with, and especially for Lisa who made me feel very much at home in her home. It was a great trip! – Lovingly, Rev. John
